Properties of pomegranate seed oil: It is highly moisturizing and improves skin elasticity, balances skin pH, and is anti-inflammatory. It has natural antioxidants, which protect the skin from free radicals, and helps prevent and destroy formation of cancer cells.
How to use: The oil can be use externally or topically as a skin or hair moisturizer, as a massage oil, as a personal lubricant or as a dietary supplement.

Effects on skin: Because of its various nutritious properties, pomegranate seed oil is used extensively for cosmetic purposes. It is used as an emollient to protect, heal and moisturize skin which is dry, cracked or irritated. It is especially useful for mature and aging skin. Since it contains high levels of ellagic and punicic acids, along with certain natural estrogenic properties, it helps to revitalize dull skin and smooth away wrinkles.

The oil contains certain anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory qualities, and has been also used for medication in skin problems such as eczema, dry skin, sunburn and psoriasis. Other minor skin inflammations and irritations also benefit when treated with pomegranate seed oil. The oil contains conjugated fatty acids, which help to ease muscular pains and aches, and also to reduce swelling.

Medicinal use: Pomegranate seed oil is generally mixed in cosmetic and medicinal creams, lotions and oils for external use. Sometimes it is also recommended to be taken internally. The phytoestrogens and conjugated fatty acids help to ease certain menopausal symptoms such as vaginal dryness, diminished libido, night sweats, hot flashes and mood swings. Because it is rich in antioxidant properties such as polyphenols, it has also been used effectively to treat and heal various types of cancers such as skin cancer and breast cancer.
